Please join us for opening night at Bootie LA's new home, Safari Sam's. Many of you had been asking us to move closer to Hollywood, so when you people talk – Bootie LA listens. Safari Sam's has a great reputation, and we're very excited to have teamed up with them to bring you the best mashup dance party in LA. We've got lots of great entertainment lined up in the next few months, but there's nothing like an opening night party, so we hope to see you there!

Live on stage at 10:30 PM – THE EVOLUTION CONTROL COMMITTEE present The Wheel Of Mashup!

To celebrate our move to Safari Sam’s, we are proud to present what many consider the pioneers of the modern-day mashup movement – THE EVOLUTION CONTROL COMMITTEE. Since 1986, The ECC has steadily built a worldwide reputation by creating sample-based music of questionable legality. Long before the sampler and computers made it easy, The ECC was violating copyright laws the hard way. They are widely acknowleged as the creators of the first mashup, back in the early ’90s, with The Whipped Cream Mixes, featuring Public Enemy vs. Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. Various press articles have acknowledged The ECC as the "Godfather of the Mashup".

The ECC is once again breaking new mashup ground with a live mashup show featuring The Wheel Of Mashup. The wheel is actually two wheels: the outer one chooses the music, and the inner one chooses the vocals. Audience members are brought up on stage to spin the wheel, and the music and vocals are mashed up on the fly. In fact, all of the show’s music is mashed up live, which makes the show more spontaneous and alive than an ordinary DJ set. It’s a short attention span dream mix – 60 songs mashed into 40 minutes.

Don't miss this rare live performance – The ECC goes on at 10:30 PM SHARP!

Your resident Bootie DJs ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D and DJ PAUL V. will be on the decks all night, spinning all your favorite mashup bootlegs, as well as a few brand-new tracks.

To get a taste of some of the mashups we'll be playing, be sure to tune in to Paul V.'s Smash Mix this Friday at 5:30 pm on Indie 103.1.

Midnight mashup show: LA's own FOXY COTTON

For our first midnight mashup show on the big stage at Safari Sam's, we are happy to feature LA performance artist FOXY COTTON – who, while living in San Francisco, was our resident performer at our Mini-Bootie parties. He was also the mastermind behind last year's mini rock-opera version of the Dean Gray - American Edit bootleg album, and he knows how to put on a show!

Of course, it wouldn't be Bootie without free mashup CDs – so as usual, we'll have this month's new 10-track Bootie CD for the first 50 people through the door! (And sure, maybe a few more to give away at midnight.)

But if you really want one, be sure to get there early – and remember, it's also only $6 before 10:30 PM!

We hope to see you this Saturday!

Since it's Memorial Day Weekend, you probably don't have to work on Monday. So we decided to do a special Bootie party on Sunday ... it's our first-ever Pirate Prom!

Come with a date, or go stag – we don't care! Just come decked out in your finest pirate attire – we call it "pirate formal."

And of course, it wouldn't be a prom without crowning a Prom King and Queen, and at midnight, you will decide who wins! We've got fabulous prizes for those who enter, and the "Best Couple" will win a dinner cruise around the Bay on Hornblower Cruises! We'll have other prizes as well – "Best Pirate Lad" and "Best Pirate Lass" will each win free haircut and color, courtesy of the newly opened and uber-fabulous Ginger Rubio salon.

And we'll have Bootie CD goodie bags to give away as prizes as well!

Capture the night – free! Photographer NATHAN K. will be there to take prom pictures, which he will print out for you right there, so you can take one home!

Dance to the sound of music piracy!

Your Bootie resident DJs ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D, PARTY BEN, and DADA will all be doing showcase sets on the main floor, spinning all your mashup favorites.

And in the upstairs room, it's all '80s mashups, all night! We've got three of California's best mashup DJs to give you only '80s mashups: EARWORM (San Francisco), DJ TRIPP (Santa Cruz), and DAVID X (Sacramento).

And of course, what would a prom be without ... the PROM BAND! Bootie house band SMASH-UP DERBY will be fulfilling this time-honored duty with a crowd-pleasing set of – yup, you guessed it – '80s mashups. What is it about prom that makes us think of the '80s? Maybe it was all those John Hughes movies....

As always, we've got free Bootie CDs to the first 75 people through the door, and it's still 2 for 1 before 10:30 pm.

THANK YOU from Bootie!

And last – we want to THANK YOU for voting Bootie as "Best Dance Club," and Smash-Up Derby as "Best Cover Band" in the SF Weekly Best of San Francisco Readers Poll last week. Bootie loves YOU too!

We hope to see you this Sunday!

BOOTIE Top 10 - May 2007

We are over a week late in posting this month's Bootie Top 10 list of our favorite mashups! We are soooooooo sorry! Throwing our Bootie NYC party nearly killed us, and we've just been too swamped to compile this thing. Thankfully, it all came together on our flight back to San Francisco ... so here ya go, for your downloading pleasure...

Aggro1 - Stripped Chain (Katie Enlow vs. Rammstein) – Dayton, Ohio
This track effectively proves how mashup culture continues to grow and change, evolving in different directions, as bootleggers come up with new and inventive ways to recycle and re-use pop music. This one at first appears to be a simple A+B - except that A and B are both covers: Boston mashup diva Katie Enlow breathes new life into her interpretation of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain," which sounds especially dark when paired with Rammstein's cover of Depeche Mode's "Stripped."

Clive$ter - Am I Undone (Erasure vs. Korn vs. Fatboy Slim) – Austria
We've heard Korn acapellas used in quite a few mashups, but none of them really seem to work all that well - except for this one, which somehow makes Jonathan Davis sound completely natural fronting a gay electro-pop group like Erasure. Who would have thought?

ComaR - Mr. Jones In A Forest (Mike Jones vs. The Cure) – Paris
What is it about this mashup? D loved it immediately and became somewhat obsessed with it. And we weren't the only ones. We were surprised when DJ Freddy, King of Pants, told us how he kept playing it over and over ... he was obsessed with it too! Then DJ Reset shocked us by dropping it into his guest set at Bootie NYC. D says it's all about the hooky rap - "Who? Who?..." and how the darkness of the Cure brings out a creepy feel to the lyrics - "He's got a shotgun, so go back home" for example, while the chorus of voices sound almost happy. Whatever it is, we love it.

DJ F.O.X. - Don't Stop The Glamour (Fergie vs. Roxy Music) – San Franicsco BOOTIE EXCLUSIVE!
Sick of Fergie's "Glamorous" yet? Every time we think we're finally done with it, another mashup comes out that breathes new life into this shallow ode to excess. This one comes courtesy of fellow San Francisco DJ F.O.X. Roxy Music's suave and sophisticated grooves couldn't be better-suited. This mashup sounds like the audio equivalent of wearing an Armani suit while sipping an expensive martini in a swanky bar on the top floor of a Miami hotel.

Go Home Productions - Supreme Evil (Diana Ross vs. ELO vs. Michael Jackson) – Watford, UK
As arguably one of the best mashup producers in the world, it's always a treat when Mark Vidler releases a few new mashups. Although his batting average ain't quite what it used to be, he definitely knocks one out of the park with this one. It's classic GHP - by digging a little deeper into pop music history than most bootleggers, he manages to cram a piece of the '60s, '70s, and '80s all into one soon-to-be-classic mashup.

DJ Mix - Sexy Bak (Justin Timberlake vs. C&C Music Factory) – Hawaii / Utah BOOTIE EXCLUSIVE!
Random DJs and budding bedroom producers email us unsolicited mashups all the time ... and unfortunately, most of them suck. At best, they tend to be mediocre and uninspired. At worst, they're key-clashed train wrecks. So it was with great surprise when we heard this one, sent to us by a new bootlegger out of Utah. Sure, Justin's "Sexyback" is a little played out ... but the way he mixes and matches and intercuts these two songs - especially their respective intro parts - is unique and refreshing! It's definitely not put together a like a typical A+B.

DJ Morsy - Roll Out The Rapture (Ludacris vs. The Rapture)
– New York City
This is far and away the best track from the Emo-Thug mashup album. (A bit of a misnomer, really - The Rapture isn't an emo band. In fact, none of the artists on the album are "emo." But I guess it sounds better than calling it "Indie-Dance-Punk-Thug." Anyway...) This may just be a stupid simple A+B rap mashup ... but for some reason, we love it. Makes us want to dance around like an idiot, banging on a cowbell.

DJ Paul V. - Tequila Lip Gloss (Lil Mama vs. The Champs) – Los Angeles
Our Bootie LA co-conspirator Paul V. threw this little number together just in time for our Bootie Cinco de Mayo party, and it's absolutely infectious! Lil Mama's "Lip Gloss" is already shaping up to be this summer's big party song, and pairing it with "Tequila" just makes it even more of a summertime jam.

Voicedude - War Bombs (Gap Band vs. Edwin Starr vs. Black Sabbath vs. Outkast) – Orange County, California
Another epic, high-concept mashup from Orange County-based Voicedude. Released on the 4-year anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, this anti-war mashup anthem is pointed and political. Who said mashups were just stupid fun? Done well, they can make a cultural statement as well, as this track amply proves.

Wax Audio - Dissolved by the Water All These Years (PJ Harvey vs. Tori Amos vs. Bjork vs. Massive Attack) – Sydney, Australia
A lot of our favorite mashups take shamelessly commercial pop and rap music and make it sound magically "cool," simply by pairing it with Pitchfork-approved indie and alternative artists. This one, however, forgoes any ironic juxtapositions. It's just a hauntingly beautiful track, sounding like a dream collaboration among three of our favorite female singers, all of whom have well-earned reputations as unique women with left-of-center artistic visions.

We've got another great lineup of mashup DJs for you this month, including ourselves – DJs ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D. We'll be spinning the absolute best in bastard pop for you all night, digging deep into our massive mashup collection from the past five years, mixing and matching every conceivable musical genre, era, and style into one big A.D.D. dance party!

Also -- tune into to WFMU between 3pm and 6pm this Friday to get a taste of what you will hear at Bootie -- Adrian and the Mysterious D will be guests of Billy Jam on his fantastic Put the Needle On the Record radio show!

Part of what makes BOOTIE unique is the MIDNIGHT MASHUP SHOW, where singers perform mashups sung live. This Friday, you'll be treated to a rare New York performance by TRIXXIE CARR, along with Adrian Roberts, vocalists for SMASH-UP DERBY, the Bootie house band in San Francisco. As singers for "the world's only mashup rock band," these two know how to mash it up and make it look easy, and Trixxie is one of the most captivating singers you'll ever see. ... and Adrian & Trixxie together are a force to be reckoned with!

Joining the party this month will be New York City's very own DJ RESET, who made history in America with the first commercially-released mashup ever, "Frontin' on Debra" – a hybrid of Beck's "Debra" and Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z's "Frontin'." Mixmag called his genre-busting style an "ass-kicker" and he's opened for the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Ja Rule, Chingy, Fabolous, The Prodigy, and others. He's gonna be sure to rock the party!

Also spinning will be DJ LOBSTERDUST, also from New York City, and one of our favorite mashup producers. Born and raised in Israel, his innovative mashups mix indie, pop, dance, and hip-hop into a unique sonic collage, and have received significant airplay on radio stations around the globe, including Sirius, France's Oui FM, and LA's Indie 103.1.

Bootie's crowd is as mashed up as it's music, so anything goes. Bring whoever you want, and wear whatever you're feeling that evening! Of course, being a club that plays pirated bootlegs, we always have a soft spot for pirate wear or skulls & crossbones. :-)

World premiere of DJ WiiJ – DJ set using hacking Nintendo Wiimote controllers – starring the Silence Xperiment

This month, live on stage, we are proud to present the world premiere of a new way of DJing – it's called WiiJing! Created by DJ ! (pronounced Shift-1), this revolutionary new DJ style uses two hacked Nintendo Wiimotes – the controller from Nintendo's new videogame system, Wii – to manipulate and control the music in a whole new way!

By hacking into two Nintendo Wiimotes, he was able to map controls on a PC DJing program that would allow him to DJ using the Wiimotes. He's calling the technological mashup "WiiJing" and says it will change the way DJing is performed in the future. This new DJ style will have it's world premiere on stage at club Bootie. To see how this works, check out this video on YouTube:

Yes, this is for real!!

Also performing will be DJ Funktified, who will be VJing alongside the WiiJing. The two together make up the Turlock-based group The Silence Xperiment, the mashup team responsible for last year's infamous bootleg album, Q-Unit, which mashed up Queen vs. 50 Cent. This is one show you do not want to miss!

At 10:30 PM SHARP: SMASH-UP DERBY UNPLUGGED – a special acoustic set from the Bootie house band

It's practically a rite of passage for a rock band to eventually perform an "unplugged" acoustic set – and this month, Bootie house band SMASH-UP DERBY fulfills this time-honored rock tradition. They'll be performing their biggest mashup hits ... UNPLUGGED! It's looking to be a "very special" set – Jason is even trading in his guitar for the conga!

Upstairs: FRINGE DJs Motion Potion, Big Dolla, and Tim Dietz spin bootleg breaks

Taking over the upstairs room this month are three resident DJs from THE FRINGE, the arts collective known in San Francisco and Burning Man circles for hosting a wild variety of live music and art-infused events like the Icebreakers Ball, Freaksgiving, and FreQ-o de Mayo. DJs Motion Potion, Big Dolla, and Tim Dietz play out an entire spectrum of music with genre-bending sets. They regularly bust out the freakish talents to rock a mixed house of indie rockheads, breakdancers, jam banders, and freaky underground clubers at the same time. Don't miss this unique, mashed-up bootleg-only set from these freaks!

Midnight mashup show starring RENTTECCA and COCO CANAL

In the San Francisco drag scene, RENTTECCA is known as the "filthiest person alive" ... and that's why we love her! You might have seen her at her clubs Bearacudda and Trans Am, but tonight, we are happy to have her back at Bootie for the midnight mashup show, joined on stage by local drag superstar COCO CANAL. They'll be performing to Oli Clifford's fantastic Destiny's Child vs. Arctic Monkeys bootleg.

Of course, resident Bootie DJs ADRIAN, MYSTERIOUS D, and PARTY BEN, will be in the main room, spinning all your favorite mashups throughout the night. And filling in for the vacationing DJ DADA will be the Bootie debut of DJ FABBRI, who will be spinning for the first hour from 9-10 PM. Come out early and show him some love!

We've got free Bootie CDs to the first 50 people, and it's 2 for 1 before 10:30 pm, so getting to Bootie early is a good thing!

We hope to see you this Saturday!

A Plus D tracks on AplusD.net

Due to people calling our mp3s DIRECTLY to their online/web community mp3 players, our RebelDJs.com bandwidth got maxed out - and our ISP suspended us! We've moved the site over to AplusD.net in the meantime, so you can still get our tracks there.

However - we ask anyone who likes the tracks and wants to put them into an Mp3 player playlist to PLEASE DO NOT link directly to our mp3s, please host any track you like on your own server (after downloading). Thanks!
